Memorable Show: "Hill Street Blues"

From time to time, I will drop in a show or two that I feel was truly memorable whether it was something I watched on TV or the Web. To me the hallmark of a great show is the writing followed closely behind by the acting.
“Hill Street Blues” is special to me because its launch coincided with my start as a TV critic. Because the show got off to a bad start in the ratings, NBC paraded its stars around the nation on major press junkets. I had the pleasure of meeting Charles Haid (Renko), Betty Thomas (Lucy) and Bruce Weitz (Belker). I would have liked to have met Mike Warren (Bobby Hill) mostly because he was the guard on the UCLA team that had Lew Alcindor (pre-Jabbar) at center.
A few notables who went on to bigger roles were in the show in small parts including David Caruso (played an Irish gang leader) and Ken Olin who later starred in “thirtysomething.”
The show is available here on DVD.
